Today is the day when The Highest Law in the Land: How the Unchecked Power of Sheriffs Threatens Democracy is available! Linda Greenhouse wrote an incredibly thoughtful review of the book here.

Sheriffs pose a risk to democracy and public safety. An Ohio sheriff recently asked people to write down the names of neighbors with Harris/ Walz signs (while using xenophobic language). Trump’s plans for mass deportations will rely upon the tried-and-true tactics of sheriffs to police communities and harass residents. And sheriffs threaten to partner with local anti-democracy groups to harass voters.
